Volunteer Book Co-Author and Interviewer for Cancer Communication

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic volunteer to co-author a book on how to communicate with people touched by cancer. As a volunteer, you will play a pivotal role in interviewing and collating experiences, insights, and advice from individuals affected by cancer. You will receive joint authorship credit for the published book, providing a valuable resource for both patients and caregivers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to gather diverse perspectives on communication challenges and strategies.
  • Develop interview protocols and questionnaires to ensure comprehensive data collection.
  • Active listening and empathy while engaging in conversations with individuals, maintaining confidentiality and respect.
  • Document and transcribe interviews accurately, capturing key insights and impactful stories.
  • Collaborate with the writing team to organize and structure the content of the book.
  • Co-author chapters based on the collected interviews, blending personal experiences and expert advice.
  • Conduct additional research, as needed, to support the content and ensure its accuracy.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the book project team to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy and sensitivity when engaging with individuals affected by cancer.
  • Strong writing and storytelling abilities.
  • Ability to actively listen and probe for deeper insights during interviews.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with cancer-related terminology and issues.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the privacy of interviewees.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively within a team.
