A good night's sleep is an important part of physical and mental health. Getting your best sleep enables enables the brain and body to do important jobs that help the body and mind stay optimal to deal with the effect of cancer and its treatments.
What a good night's sleep can do
Not being able to fall asleep, stay asleep or have a deep sleep may make it hard for you to stay alert and involved in activities during the day. This can cause problems for cancer patients. They may not be able to remember treatment instructions and may have trouble making decisions. Being well-rested can improve energy and help you cope better with side effects of cancer and treatment. In addition, prolonged sleep issues may increase the risk of anxiety or depression.
There are many products that can help you to fall asleep faster or to get a better night's sleep. For example:-
Weighted blankets: Many people find that adding a weighted blanket to their sleep routine helps to reduce stress and promote calm. In the same way as a hug or a baby’s swaddle, the gentle pressure of a weighted blanket may help ease symptoms and improve sleep for people with insomnia and anxiety.
A Pillow spray:Â Pillow sprays with relaxing components may be beneficial as part of a relaxing bedtime routine. And some essential oils used in sprays, such as lavender have been hailed a great sleep aid.
White noise machine: Recent studies have continued to find white noise positively affects sleep
Eye masks:Â Scientific studies show that combining an eye mask with earplugs is effective in prolonging the sleep
