Often family members and friends are needed to run errands, provide transportation to appointments and cancer treatment, prepare meals and help with household chores. Living with cancer can take both a physical and emotional toll. But please remember that it can be hard for a cancer patient to ask or accept help and to be sensitive when offering.
Friends disappear when someone has a cancer diagnosis, or they simply avoid talking to the cancer patient. This together with the lifestyle changes (due to appointments, treatment options, therapy side effects and the illness caused by cancer) can make some people with cancer feel isolated. It is important to remember that the person has not changed, but their circumstances have. Maybe a small gift can break the ice? but it is always important to remember that the gift of your time is important also. Just sitting with someone, talking or sitting silently, sending a note or making a phone call might be just whatt they need.
