The Ped-Onc Resource Center was created in 1998 as a web site for parents, friends, and families of children who have or had childhood cancer. The author and most of the contributors to this site were members of the ACOR pediatric cancer mailing lists: ped-onc, ped-onc-survivors, and ALL-kids.
Cancer Kid Camps
Time spent at camp is a wonderful experience for our cancer kids and their siblings too. How wonderful for them to leave all those hospital visits behind and be outdoors doing fun things with other kids who understand. It gives them a chance to both have fun and to open up and say what they really feel about being diagnosed with cancer.
Many organizations have established cancer kid camps. These camps have the staff and facilities to deal with the children's special needs and many times the counselors are cancer survivors. Which camp your child will visit is probably dictated by which camp is near you. Check with your hospital social worker or support organization to find what is available in your area.
