We believe research is the key to beating skin disease, and we've come a long way in terms of what we know about them since the charity was founded back in 1996. In that time, we've taken great strides in understanding how many of the skin diseases function and spread, as well as how this will ultimately affect our management of them.
Our unwavering commitment to funding quality research means we won't stop until we've found cures for common skin problems like eczema and acne through to potential killers like malignant melanoma.
None of our work would be possible without the help of supporters and people who dedicate time and effort to fundraise for the charity and to raise awareness of skin conditions.
Charity Aims
The British Skin Foundation has a number of aims we work towards these are;
Research: We fund research to further our understanding of the different types of skin disease with the goal of finding cures and better treatments for all of them.
Fundraising: Research doesn't fund itself, which means all of our fundraising events and donations are crucial to enabling us to continue our work.
Campaigning: We'll fight for change, institutionally and behaviourally, for the good of skin disease sufferers
Awareness: To better understanding of what skin disease is and why it's important we do what we do.
Community: To get people sharing their experience with one another so they don't have to suffer in silence.
How we are funded
The British Skin Foundation is not statutory funded and relies completely on donations to be able to do its work, these come from several sources including;
Individual supporters - The very backbone of our support, we wouldn't be able to do what we can without our regular givers, who choose to give monthly, annually or whenever they can.
Events - Whether it's a sponsored walk, climbing up Kilimanjaro, running the London Marathon or simply a local quiz night, events, both those organised by us and BSF supporters play an essential fundraising role in the organisation and are a vital way in which supporters can engage with the charity. For more information on getting involved in events on behalf of the BSF
